In The Fog Of Liquor

K Morris Poet's avatarK Morris - Poet

In the fog of liquor
Desire grows
And the heart beats quicker.
‘Tis bliss
To kiss
But the wise one knows
That those
Soft lips
At which he sips
Are as fleeting as the rose
Which in summer grows.

So we let go
In lust
While the dust
Under the bed
Is dead
Skin, and the summer rose
Grows brown
And each petal
Does settle
On the ground
And becomes as one
With flowers long since gone.

Deadlines in the World of Make Believe

FairytaleFeminista's avatarFairy Tale Feminista

Fairy tales love deadlines. Midnight curfews. Seasonal mandates. Royal decrees with an expiration date. It ramps up the drama to know that not only does a protag have an obstacle to overcome, but there’s also a clock on when it must be completed. Readers love that.

You know who doesn’t love it? Writers. We put our characters through the ringer, but nothing compares to the rollercoaster of meeting a deadline—especially when you’re an indie pub author. Deadlines are yours to control and without external forces demanding you meet them; they can become ephemeral. Empty. Pointless. It takes an extraordinary amount of discipline to keep to a self-imposed deadline. And sometimes we fall short.

I know I did. I expected to return to my blogging within a month. Three months later I’m finally climbing out of my book edits. And I’m not done, but I…

Longing to forget

Longing to forget

You are the music I long to forget,

wrapped in every word

tangled around every string.

In the empty space you are still held.

Why?

I CAN CRY

Man of many thoughts's avatarkeithgarrettpoetry

I CAN CRY

Working hard is what I do, bruises and cuts are many too,

I know I’m strong but the pain is inside, so I can cry.

There lives in me the will to survive, I’ve walked fifty miles.

When my journey was done with god at my side, I can cry,

I can throw a football, hike up through the hills and fall,

I can run through a fire, defend my girl, I can cry.

I can cry when the world is at war,

I can be strong and I can cry some more.

When you lose a loved one or this world takes from you,

It is that I will cry, I am a man and any man can cry too.

To know that I can take care of everything I need in life,

When it’s time then I know it’s alright and that I can cry.

Ocean (an acrostic poem)

Michael's avatarNever Short On Words

On top of my boogie board

Care thrown to the wind as the wave breaks

Everything screams go as I start falling downward

And the wave carries me towards the awaiting shore

Now time to pick myself up and find my next ride
