When asked why he was an Indie author, he told us that he tried the traditional route twice before. The first time the publisher didn’t pay him, and the second failed to promote the books as promised. So he said that he was going indie because the writing was the most important part.

DW Storer is an amazing author. Go show him some love!

Desiree Jensen

Welcome to today’s Author Spotlight! Today we have Desiree Jensen, or Des as her friends and colleagues call her. She has been writing urban fantasy, pulp horror & slam poetry under the name of D. Gabrielle Jensen for 15 years but has been writing in general for 35 years. She started writing ‘because she just did. It was in her blood’.

When asked why she became an indie author, she explained that it is because she wants “the freedom to be the final decision on my work and to be able to work according to my own timelines, not someone else’s.”

She has a website for anyone that is interested in checking her work out (and you really should!): D. Gabrielle Jensen .

She resides in Colorado, USA where she lives with two cats – a teen mom and her kid, who are now 11 and 10 years old and enjoys many hobbies when she is not busy writing: music, concerts, crochet, jewelry making, graphic design/merchandise design.

We asked her if she gets writer’s block. She answered, “I do. It depends on how bad it is. If I can make words, I try to just push through it. If I can’t, if I find myself staring at a blank page for too long, I try something else. Something creative, go for a walk, work in the garden to reconnect my soul to the Earth.”

We were so happy that Ms. Jensen filled out our questionnaire! It’s so nice to find out about other Indie Authors. We hope you all enjoyed reading about her and that you go check out her website and show her some love.

Creative Spotlight : Jess @Studio Reece

Today I want to tell you about this wonderful creator… She works with clay, and paint, and multimedia art. She has a couple of coloring books available on amazon! She has made some incredible handmade journals and dice towers.

We asked her when she stared to create, and her response was exactly what I expected from someone as creative as her! She told us “As long as I can remember, I have needed to MAKE things.”
When asked what or who got her started, her response was “All the women on my mother’s side are amazingly talented and creative.”
We asked why did she choose to be an Indie Artist and her answer was perfect, she said “”I love to create” sounds trite, but it’s just true. There is something deep in my soul that calls to me every moment of every day to make something new in the world that wasn’t there before. Being an Indie Artist allows me the freedom to pursue that motivation.”

She has her own website where you can keep up with her, including the art and her amazing books. Go show her some love, and see the amazing art she creates!

I personally am about to order her gothic garden coloring book. I need it. Seriously.

Spotlight on Leah Polumbo

Time to meet Leah Polumbo aka Finn O’Malley who lives in Norther Wasatch Front in Utah. She writes Urban Fantasy short stories and novels. She started weaving fantasies as a sixth grader when she told the story about a dog who drank the entire Atlantic Ocean and has continued with more short stories and her series, Keeper of Element.
She has always had the urge to write, expressing her thoughts, ideas, and stories through the written word in fictional stories and inspirational moments when she felt something needed to be shared.

Thanks to a group on Facebook and a writing mentor/motivational speaker, she was inspired to kick her hobby up a notch and make it a career.

She decided to become an Indie Author, because like most, she feels it is important to own our stories and choose our own paths. She lives with her husband, two children, and they enjoy their lives under the rule of two notble and righteous cats.

When asked about dealing with writer’s block, she usually steps away from the project and goes to find fun and inspiration in other things. These include music, enjoying adventures that aren’t between the covers of books, or she will switch to another project to mix it up a bit.

Her advice: The most important thing is to KEEP writing. And we agree wholeheartedly with her.
We hope you enjoyed our first Author Spotlight! Come back on Wednesday for our next author, Deedra Nichole Mosley!
