Author: My Dog Curses Out Veternarian Staff (Humor) 🐾

Peregrine Arc: An Author's Scratchwork's avatarA.R. Clayton

My dog cursed out both our vet and our vet tech today. It’s a little known fact that if you translate a dog’s barks, you’ll get language unfit for anyone’s ears. Our vet’s office has been coming out to owner’s vehicles during the pandemic to take the animals in for their treatment; they gives a verbal summary of the treatment at the end.

My dog’s speeches went something like this:

“I told you to get away from this car, you cheap tiara wearing, cat lover who dunks their biscuits in beef gravy and doesn’t share. If you get any closer to MY PERSON, I’ll dig your own muddy grave with my bare paws, you squirrel’s bottom!”

“Please stop barking. I’m so sorry, she usually isn’t like this–“

“And another thing, you blunt toothed canine prancer, spawn of feline, you. You smell disgustingly sweet and clean. When’s the last time…

First person vs. Third person

Kalesjha H. Wolf's avatarThe best tales are born in edits of frail first drafts.

pov4It’s not uncommon for arguments to cook between writers on First-person vs. Third-person. Aside from the various narratives in each category, these differences of opinion occur because they are convinced one is better than the other.

I believe in plot-driven stories. Which means I center my narrative on the story and not the characters needs. I delight in reading both, even though I prefer a Third-person. Especially Third-person Omniscient at that (Tolkien, Terry Pratchett, Elie Wiesel, Philip Pullman, etc…). It is a shame that these days, this style of composition is determined out of fashion. (I like old fashion stuff!) Unless you are successful, established and a published bestseller, this method of writing most likely won’t land you a publishing contract. That said, not impossible if you are gifted at writing Omniscient.

I write in Third person Limited Omniscient. The most universal known example of this is the Harry Potter series. However, I switch point of…

As the magic of Christmas and the shortest day sit behind us, the hazy fun of midnight on New Year’s and the crazy diet and exercise plans in the first weeks of January slow down we’re settling into a new year and a new decade. I’ve been spending about the whole of January trying to convince myself to post something on what the new decade means to me. So here goes, a personal post on my reflections on the new year.

I’ll start the post by doing what everyone always does at the end of something- looking back. Given it’s the start of a new decade it seems people are looking way back: considering our 2009 selves, cringing at that bad hairstyle and reminiscing that crazy holiday, thinking of the friends we’ve made, the ones we’ve lost and the ones we’ve kept with us.

As you can imagine, starting 2009…
